PUREED OR BLENDED FOR 4 WEEKS

  • This diet consist of blended or pureed solids and full liquids. The portions are very small to help prevent vomiting. These small high protein meals help your new stomach pouch heal. DO NOT EAT ANY SOLID FOOD. Follow this step for 4 weeks.

Guidelines: 

  • Your meals should only be liquid or pureed. Sip liquid meals very slowly. Drink 4-6 ounces, or 1/2 – 3/4 cup over a 30 minute period.
  • Drink at least 6-8 cups of water or other sugar-free beverage each day. Sugar free beverages include: crystal light, sugar-free kool-aid, sugar-free popsicles and sugar-free gelatin may also be used. Drink fluids 30-60 minutes before and after your meals.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine or carbonated beverages (soft drinks)
  • Take two chewable or liquid multivitamins every day. This will help to prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Take this vitamins with a meal.
  • Eat at least 6 times a day. You will only be able to eat small amounts at one time . Choose items high in protein from the milk and meat group. Always eat your protein first. Protein helps your body heal from the surgery. It is normal not to have an appetite for the first few weeks after surgery. If you are not hungry, do not force yourself to eat.
  • Stop before you feel full. Do not over eat.
  • Do not lie down within one hour of eating.
  • Avoid restaurants foods. They may be too high in fat, sugar and calories.
  • Record everything that you eat and what amounts.

TIPS ON HOW TO BLEND FOODS

  1. Cut foods into small pieces
  2. Place food into blender or food processor.
  3. Add liquid such as broth or milk.
  4. Blend or puree until smooth.
  5. Strain foods that do not blend in a completely sooth consistency.
  6. Season foods to taste. You want to avoid spicy foods.
