The gastric balloon, also known as the intragastric balloon or stomach ballon, is a flexible and soft silicone sphere that is placed into the patient’s stomach through an endoscopy, in order to achieve weight loss for people with morbid obesity. Its a restrictive bariatric surgery procedure, focused in creating an early feeling of fullness and satiety, to reduce the consumption of food, which facilitates the process of weight loss.
The gastric balloon is specially designed not to deteriorate in stomach acids. It has a silicone valve that closes automatically when the balloon is full, and it is a product to be used temporarily that requires a commitment on the patient part in re-educating their behavior. Its purpose is to reduce weight during the use of the product, and maintain this loss for a prolonged period once the device is removed.
