Bleeding can come from anywhere along the digestive tract, but it is often divided into:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Upper GI bleeding:<\/strong> The upper digestive tract includes the esophagus (the tube connecting the throat with the stomach), stomach, and upper portion of the small intestine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lower GI bleeding: <\/strong>The lower digestive tract includes most of the small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Gastrointestinal bleeding may be a sign of a serious disease and condition, such as the following GI cancers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/drisidroaguilar.com\/en\/2016\/10\/14\/colon-cancer-screening\/\">Colon Cancer<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Small Intestine Cancer<\/li>\n<li>Stomach Cancer<\/li>\n<li>Intestinal polyps (a precancerous condition)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Other possible causes of gastrointestinal bleeding include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Abnormal blood vessels in the lining of the intestines (also called angiodysplasia)<\/li>\n<li>Diverticular bleeding or diverticulosis<\/li>\n<li>Celiac sprue or Crohn&#8217;s disease<\/li>\n<li>Esophageal varices<\/li>\n<li>Esophagitis<\/li>\n<li>Gastric ulcer (stomach)<\/li>\n<li>Mallory-Weiss tear<\/li>\n<li>Meckel&#8217;s Diverticulum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Refers to any bleeding originating from the digestive tract.
