Minor surgery deals with simple surgical procedures performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, and that do not require special post-operative care. Minor surgical procedures only require local or truncal anesthesia. Sedation is not used, fasting or preoperative exams are not necessary, and are outpatient procedures.
Problems usually resolved with minor surgery include:
- Ingrown toenail
- Lipoma
- Sebaceous or epidermoid cyst
- Removal of warts, moles, papilloma and others
- Subcutaneous foreign body removal
